Monday 14th July – Friday 18th July:

This week I was at ZOO magazine in West London, for another week of work experience – and boy was it the best! I applied through an online scheme (same scheme I applied for Blue Rubicon PR) to work at ZOO not thinking anything would happen, but my application was picked YAY! – I couldn’t believe it when I got an email through asking what dates I’d like to come and work with the team.

With the last two weeks of work experience being pretty dull, I was so excited to be at ZOO! I was a bit worried because, if you don’t know, it’s a men’s magazine (Lads Mag!) but I wasn’t fazed one bit, I wanted a challenge – after all it is work experience.

I arrived at the Bauer Media office in West London and got shown around by one of the guys called Jon – who was my mentor for the week, I was constantly asking questions, bet he was thrilled to have me, haha! The office seemed pretty quiet (I got told later on that half of the 16 team members were on holiday – pretty small team to produce such a big yet great magazine!) but that meant that I had more of a chance to get published! As I got introduced to everyone, I knew my expectations where the complete opposite – as a lads magazine I thought there would be boobs and bum everywhere, but the office walls were covered by previous front covers of the magazine (as to be expected, it’s a way of showcasing previous editions) and had a massive TV plus a docking station blasting music out. I felt at ease straight away.

I got settled quickly, handing out the daily newspapers to the editor and news editor as well as distributing any incoming post. I was asked to research some facts and news in numbers for a feature that ZOO do in every issue (weekly) which includes ‘Get Fact’ which is filled with some pretty bizarre yet interesting facts you may not know and also ‘News in numbers!’ which is exactly what it says on the tin – hopefully some of my facts and news will be in the next weeks issue, as these pages had already gone to press before I could make a start on them!

Throughout my week at ZOO, I was asked to research any videos that have already gone viral online or videos that could potentially go viral. I had to comment on why they were funny/stupid/pure genius and what the ZOO team would think of them, all of those sorts of things.

I managed to get a few videos online, check them out on the ZOO website – if you do watch some of them online, they are a bit saucy, especially the touchscreen cleaner video, nonetheless it’s an advert and a cool one at that!

My favourite had to be how a dog learned to drive! CRAZY I know, but he definitely is a better driver than a lot of people on the roads these days.

Here in the UK, the weather has been glorious (makes a change, right?) but I wasn’t so thankful of the blistering heat when I had to get on a tube every day. One day my head was under some guys armpit and there was literally no way of getting out, I couldn’t wish anymore that I was at that moment to get off that tube and away from the sweaty armpit! GROSS!

After that tragic encounter I had to treat myself to an orange Starbucks (one of the nicest summer drinks I’ve had from there, plus it was an excuse to have a Starbucks!) whilst I waited for my train back home.

Waiting for my train after the aftermath of the armpit!

But typical England, when there is hot weather there is also a storm just to bring us all back to real life!

I honestly can’t believe how quickly the week went, I really didn’t want it to end! I was kept busy the whole time, dishing out post/papers/magazines to people, running upstairs to magazines like Heat, Grazia & Closer (also part of Bauer Media team) to grab their weeks edition as well as writing my own stuff for the website/magazine.

ZOO was by far the best work experience! – why not celebrate with a glass of wine, hey?

Until my next adventure,

Peace out!
