How do you start your day? Over the four years or so, positive affirmations have come a big part of my daily routine. How you start your day can have a huge impact on how it unfolds – especially if your mind often starts engaging in negative self-talk. Creating a routine where you start your day by doing, thinking or saying something positive is a good way to shift your focus in the right direction.

Affirmations are short, simple yet powerful statements that help to assert something to be true in your subconscious mind. They’re first-person mantras that you repeat over and over again – when you need a little push or to snap out of a bad mood. Using positive affirmations on a daily basis can transform your life. I learnt this when I read the brilliant The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, a self-help book based on the law of attraction and how positive thinking can create life-changing results. Any positive affirmations can help you shift your state of mind.

Research has shown that affirmations actually change your brain on a cellular level in that our thoughts have a direct connection to our level of health – healthy mind healthy body springs to mind. Affirmations can empower you, they make you aware of your thoughts and they’ll make you want to surround yourself with things you love and bring you happiness. I mean at first they may feel a bit uncomfortable and unnatural but once you get into the habit of using them, you’ll notice yourself becoming more aware of your self-doubt and negative-thought patterns as they will start to change.

Mornings are great for using affirmations as the negativity and stress of the previous day are gone, it’s a perfect opportunity to remind yourself that the possibilities of the day are endless and that there’s so much to look forward to regardless of your current circumstances. I personally, like to keep my morning affirmations short as that way they’re easier to stick with and remember. The first of which I write myself a short note on my alarm so that I see this positive affirmation as soon as I wake. The others are as follows…

I am meant to have an amazing life.

Today, I am grateful for everything in my life.

Today, I feel strong, I feel healthy, I feel calm.

Today, I am full of energy.

Today, I welcome infinite possibilities.

I am powerful and I create the life I desire.

I have limitless abilities to overcome my challenges.

I am abundant.

I am beautiful.

There will be days when you feel lost, days when you’ll want to give up on your dreams and goals, days when you feel like there’s not enough time to do everything you wish to do, days when you feel alone – I have many of them, but I simply saying these affirmations a couple of times a day will really keep you on the positive path.
